Start a new snowy tradition in Bayfield Wisconsin this winter.

Since Bayfield is right along the shores of Lake Superior, the small city receives a few good snow storms each year with plenty of snow and in some years, well into the spring.

Start your Bayfield winter tradition at Mt. Ashwabay Outdoor Recreation Area. This community ski hill gets its name from the surrounding towns Ash (Ashland) Wa (Washburn) Bay (Bayfield).  Trail system covers 40 km of classic and skate skiing trails that are groomed and tracked regularly. The stunning winter beauty of the mature forest ensures these trails are some of the best you’ll find in Wisconsin.

“I’ve skied at Mt. Ashwabay since I was eight years old; grew up, moved away, had kids, came back and started skiing out there with my kids,” said Jim Bratley who served on the board of directors for the ski hill.

In December, the Mt. Ashwabay team works hard to make snow if enough hasn't accumulated naturally so kids can hit the slopes during their holiday break, making Bayfield the perfect destination for the family.

“It’s a kids hill, it’s always been a kids hill and probably will always be a kids hill,” said Bratley.  “It’s made for kids.”

Another experience fit for the whole family is letting the dogs take you on a snow-covered ride across the Bayfield peninsula.  Wolfsong Adventures in Mushing is one of the few places in Wisconsin where you can try dog sledding with a professional team.

"As a self-proclaimed adventurer, exploring this opportunity with Wolfsong Adventures went to the top of the list of wonderful experiences," said Leah L. "The staff were very hospitable and kind, and the dogs were beyond fun. Would certainly go again, especially with Wolfsong!"

Wolfsong offers morning and afternoon dog sledding trips for all ages and abilities. The focus is on the dogs, 40 Siberian Huskies for an unforgettable trip you'll want to do every winter.
