Kayaking, Canoeing & SUP
The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore offers some of the best kayaking anywhere in North America. Nature has carved delicate arches, vaulted chambers and honeycombed passageways into sandstone cliffs along the Bayfield peninsula and among the archipelago.
Under calm conditions, kayakers can explore the caves while listening to the murmur of water against rock.
The Bayfield Chamber and Visitor bureau always recommends visitors explore the sea caves with a guided kayak or boat tour as conditions along Lake Superior can change without notice.
You can also take a leisurely paddle through the Madeline Island Lagoon. Canoes and Kayaks can be rented on a first come first served basis at Big Bay Town Park.
Madeline Island is the largest of the Apostle Islands and the only one not included in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. It’s 2.5 miles across the channel from Bayfield.
