Things to Do with Kids

Bayfield Area Playgrounds: 

Bayfield has two wonderful playgrounds. 

  • East Dock Park Playground located on Wilson Avenue and First Street has beautiful views of Lake Superior and the marina. Its proximity to downtown gives you a number of options to walk along the lake, grab some food, or have a picnic. 

  • Cooper Hill Playground is located on 7th Street and Manypenny Avenue. 

Bayfield Maritime Museum

The museum has many interactive exhibits fit for kids to learn about the rich history of Bayfield and Lake Superior. It’s walking distance to downtown and East Dock Park.  

Mt. Ashwaybay

In the spring, summer and fall months, take the family for a hike or mountain bike adventure on the miles of trails at Mt. Ashwabay. 

In the winters the ski hill is alive for Friday Night Youth Nights and Saturday mornings. Explore the more than 40 kilometers of nordic ski trails, or alpine skiing. Fat Bike and snowshoe with the family.  

Take the Ferry to Madeline Island 

A 20 minute ferry ride to the island will give the whole family an unforgettable experience!  

When you get to the island, ride bikes, or head out to Big Bay State Park or the Town Park to play on the beach or hit the hiking trails.

Hit the Beach! Grab some snacks and your swimsuit and explore the miles of beach along the Bayfield Peninsula and Madeline Island. 

Go for a hike! Miles of hiking trails along the Bayfield Peninsula provide spectacular views of  Lake Superior and the brownstone rock formations along the shoreline. 

Take a tour of the Apostle Islands on the Apostle Islands Cruises. 

Narrated tours provide a history of the Apostle Islands. Take a lighthouse tour and create family memories while learning the history of navigating through the apostle islands. You can also spend a day hiking on Stockton and Oak Island.
