Travel Green Wisconsin

Known to Great Lakes travelers as "The Gateway to the Apostle Islands" and as the Chicago Tribune's choice for "Best Little Town in the Midwest", Bayfield, Wisconsin has joined the global movement toward sustainable eco-friendly tourism and "go green".

Bayfield was selected as one of four pilot program locations in 2006 with more businesses receiving Travel Green certification than any other tourist destination. This year Bayfield continues to add newly certified businesses with the belief that we are the most committed tourist destination to eco-tourism than any other destination in the state.

We are pleased to provide you a link to "Earth Care - Living A Sensible Life in Bayfield." The Bayfield Library Study Circle is one of several study groups in the Chequamegon Bay area. The group of eleven women want to share with Bayfield residents and visitors their conviction that improvement in the way we choose, consume and recycle the earth's precious resources is the responsibility of each of us. Please feel free to download the attached PDF and print out copies for yourself and friends. For more information on the booklet and the work of the group, contact Linda Webster, Editor and group facilitator, at (715) 779-3865.

After meeting to study the Natural Step, a group of Bayfield residents formed a friendly, action-oriented group, Sustainable Bayfield, which gets together monthly with the goal of implementing sustainable practices. Their most visible success has been the collection of compostable and recyclable waste at the annual Apple Festival. Meeting locations are posted on their blog and they welcome anyone who is interested to join them. Although they discuss serious issues, they also take time to sustain themselves with laughter and the pleasure of good company.
