On the Water

Bayfield is located on the largest pristine body of water in the world. For those who want to experience the water, Bayfield and Lake Superior offer the 22 Apostle Islands in a National Park setting that preserves the natural resources and history of the area.

Kayak to the sea caves in Justice Bay on Sand Island. Sail up the North Channel to Julian Bay on Stockton Island on a warm Southerly breeze.

Take a narrated cruise of the Apostle Islands with the Apostle Islands Cruise Service. There are many ways to see the islands including the Morning or Evening Grand Tour, the Islander Lighthouse Cruise, the Lighthouses & Sea Caves Cruise, the Raspberry Island Keeper's Tour, the Stockton Island Dayhiker Trip and Camper Shuttle, and the Oak Island Camper Shuttle. Each September, additional lighthouse tours are available during the 13th Annual Lighthouse Celebration

The Bayfield area one of the premier sailing destinations in the world and is home to more sailboats than any other port in the Great Lakes. To experience and learn more about boating on Lake Superior, Bayfield offers charter services and tours that provide sailboat rides, bareboats, powerboats and instruction. Whether a novice or an expert, there are many ways to enjoy the beauty of Bayfield from the water.

Bayfield also has a long history of excellent fishing and bringing in a large lake trout or salmon can be a lot easier with one of the sport fishing charters in the area. If you bring your own boat there are launch ramps, marinas and marina services in the area to provide accommodations and supplies, as well as mechanical work should she need repair.

Rent a bike and hop on The Madeline Island Ferry Line to the island and enjoy it's shopping, resturaunts, museum and golf course. Take your car for a trip to Big Bay State Park,  a scuba diving trip to one of the many older ship wrecks located in the Apostles, or a brisk swim in Lake Superior off of one of many fine sand beaches offer even more adventure On the Water.
